My Favorite Subject

School sucks. Let's admit that. The only thing we like is probably gathering round with our friends, play cards, and we could have a reason to get free money (lunch money). And even though school sucks, there must be at least one subject that you like- and in my case, it's English.

Now first of all, out of all the subjects, our English teacher is the one I like the most. She is very awesome, smart, creative, and personally, I like her sense of humor. She often makes our unit test like a project, like this one time, we can either submit it as a leaflet or a short story. And even the latest unit test, we are to make an entry about one of the exotic places we would like to visit before we die (my latest entry).

Second, English is the only subject I would only pass, probably, since I love literature and writing things down. The grammars and punctuation are different things but when we need to write something down, I would always get to work immediately since it's fun. Another thing is that we write a lot, even we have two separate papers for English exams, one for our writing skills and the other for our grammatical skills. I, personally, like the first paper most (duh) and doesn't quite like the second one because I hate memorizing formulas and techniques.

It's like how Dobby received a sock from Harry. Happy.

Another thing is... I don't know. I just really like English. I would like physical education if we play volleyball or baseball all the time but no, we would stretch our arms like worms and run until we die.

So yeah, English is the best subject out of all of them, for me. But if you like Science or Music more, that's cool. You're not obliged to like English- this is just my preferences.

Mosi-oa-Tunya: the Smoke that Thunders

Mosi-oa-Tunya, or better known as Victoria Falls, is a series of waterfalls in the Southern part of Africa, to be more specific, between Zambia and Zambabwe, on the Zambezi River. The name of Mosi-oa-Tunya derive from the Batswana and Makololo tribe that generally means 'the smoke that thunders' while Victoria was a name from David Livingstone to honour Queen Victoria.

In terms of height and width, Mosi-oa-Tunya was not the best on Earth, but it is the largest, with the width of 1,708 metres and 108 metres of height. The waterfall was made up of 8 gorges, or small and narrow cliffs. When you see the first gorge from the Zambian side, you can see clearly of the other 7 gorges.

The water running down from the first gorge is clear and soothing, imagine how it would feel once you step in closer to the valley and feel the coolness of the water, how the water would reflect upon the sun and creates a beautiful rainbow. I think the smell of the water would be something we would never experience unless we visit Mosi-oa-Tunya on our own since I think the smell of all eight water running down from the gorges harshly hitting on the moldy rock underneath it at the same time is not something you can find in ordinary waterfalls. Running your hands along the water would be a pleasure I believe, hearing the soft murmuring of the water against your hands as they stream down the gorges.

I want to visit Mosi-oa-Tunya before I die because it is classified as the largest waterfall on Earth. I also wanted to see why David Livingston named the waterfall after the queen, was it as beautiful as she is? What makes the waterfall so special that he felt the need to name it after the queen. I also want to visit the famous 'Devil's Pool' where you can swim around in the edge of one of the gorges. I feel like only brave people would be willing to do that and I want to challenge myself.

Around the waterfall, there are also the natural habitat of some animals like the White Rhinos and Hippopotamus, which are two among my favourite animals.

Studying: Tips & Tricks

Okay, so it's time for me to create another post. This time we need to make a post about studying. So if you know me in real life, you'd probably understand that I don't study. Studying is just not my style. I prefer the up-all-night-before-a-test-day when studying. But in case any of you reading this isn't like me and is a diligent student (good for you) in school, this is the best way to study:

  • Knowing your topic- This is probably the simplest rule there is but I remember when I was younger, we need to memorize the eleventh spelling list in Mandarin but instead I memorized the twelfth spelling list so I know how to spell dog and not clothes. Anyways, know your topic first before studying or you will regret it.
  • Knowing what to memorize- What is studying? Studying is not understanding what the teacher is saying, studying is memorizing them. The teachers couldn't care less what you understand as long as you answer the answers correctly. So don't go waltzing into your biology classroom with an English text memorized in mind.
  • Snacks and breaks- What is the most important thing in studying? Breaks. And food since we practically can't think when we are hungry. So once in awhile, I don't know, every 15 minutes, get up and get some crisps to eat. Better yet, forget you have to study and spend the rest of the night with crisps and Netflix.
  • Music and cats videos- People say that music and cats videos are distracting but not me! Listen to music while studying, after 30 minutes, go on youtube and watch cats videos. Think of it as a little reward. Think of it like, "If I can memorize this entire paragraph, I can watch the part two of that cat video." This is legit really effective because I once studied while listening to Melanie Martinez's album, Cry Baby, and sang the songs in my head while taking the test so yeah. Listen to music, it's good for the soul. If you can't listen to music with words, try listening to game soundtracks on youtube.
  • R E L A X- I can't stress this enough. The only reason I don't like studying is that it stresses me. I stopped studying since like last year and my grades had been dropping but I think I am a better and happier person. If you want to study, it's cool since that's the reason you click this article anyways, but if you feel like the pressure from studying is too much, literally take a break from studying for like a week. You'd be shock of how much you have missed on the world while you are studying.

That's it from me. I think it's better if you don't follow these way because everyone has a preferred method of studying- you'll find your own. But the only thing you need to follow in these methods is that please don't overwork yourself, ily :*

Johnny is forced to smile when studying. Don't be a liar like Johnny.
No one likes studying.

Maria Regina

Hello friends! I'm Najel and I'm here to tell you about my school which is Maria Regina. So the school is basically in Semarang, and it's a Catholic school, but even so, students who are not Catholic may enter- like me! I'm a Moslem

Anyways, since I am in the eighth grade, I enter Maria Regina (aka Mare) like a year ago. I wasn't that good with new people, to be honest, so it made me quite uncomfortable for a few weeks. But even so, the teachers and upperclassmen there are pretty reliable since I have become what I am today (^_−)☆.

I particularly liked it in this school because one of the lessons are English- and we got 6 periods of English a week. 6 x 40 is 240, and that's 4 hours per week. And another reason is that the PE is indoor, I don't like being under the sun for too long since I get exhausted easily but I love PE, so this is really helpful to me.

I also think that the school had helped me improved my language skills a lot- we have Mandarin, Bahasa Indonesia and even Bahasa Jawa here. There is even the (optional) Japanese ECA which I join. Scout is a must here, but it gets really fun, especially when we need to crack or solve a code.

The students also shares a strong bond with each other, somehow. I think that at least 2 (?) upperclassmen is friends with their underclassmen and that's a good thing since we are a community.

Although there is something I hate here- the canteen. It has good food, good price, good servings but the distance- oh my God, I can't even. For someone like me to walk down 3 flights of stairs every time I want a snack  and then going back up is really hard. I have breathing problems, you see... \( ;-; )\

But other than that, I really enjoy the environment here. The AC is cold and we have a projector so the lessons won't be too boring.

ヾ(^_^) byebye!!
